All systems go…
This summers ashes series gained more new followers and rejuvenated interest within the sport. We are extremely proud to be one of the main sponsors for the newly formed Shillington Spitfires Cricket Club. After announcing in January 2023, the intention to bring cricket back to the memorial field at Shillington, the team now has regular training sessions and has competed in several games over the early part of the Summer including Stopsley, Hexton & Pirton cricket clubs. ????
Alan Cordt one of our employees decided to approach the parish council regarding the possibility of bringing cricket back to Shillington, it was approved, and nets were purchased via funding. Alan went to social media and gauged interest via local community groups, and it received extremely positive feedback, and the team was slowly formed. The power of social media spread the word and most of the current team was formed via Facebook local community groups.
The newly formed club of now over twenty are working hard in ensuring they have a home ground for the next season, they are in talks with the Playing Field Committee regarding permission to set up a cricket square on the playing fields and we wish them the best of luck with this.
